Chapel

 Chapel Rendering

The chapel at the banana plantation will be a small, simple building. It isn’t intended to be a place that has regular services, but more of a quiet place for the workers to have in order to go and peacefully pray or meditate.
Like the other buildings on the site it will be constructed out of concrete and will have a simple flat roof.  As one enters the chapel they will be funneled through a low-ceiling, dimly lit corridor. At the end of the corridor they will emerge into a very open, high ceiling, brightly lit main room. Around the edges of the room will be a small channel containing slowly running water. The water will give the individual a sensation of disconnect from the ground, and will also provide a peaceful feeling. The roof will contain a series of openings that will filter light down the walls and onto the surface of the water to create a nice reflective quality within the room.
Though the plantation does not require a chapel to function, it will act as an incentive for the workers to stay within the complex thus cutting down travel time to and from places of worship and allowing the plantation to have greater productivity.
